Early on, two questions formulate in our inner being and beg to be answered, "Who am I?” and “Why am I here?" And so we set out on a quest to answer them. For a few of us, that answer led us down the path of entrepreneurship. In so doing, we chose a path less traveled, one strewn with more failures than successes.

What compelled you to make such a choice? Only you can answer that question, but perhaps Roger’s story will resonate with yours and help to enlighten your journey.

On April 10, get up close and personal with The Bed Store’s Roger Cunningham. From growing up under the loving care of Granny Pearl’s Motor Court to becoming the star of his primetime television commercial during the Super Bowl no less, Roger has lived and learned the perils and privileges of starting and owning a business. With over 20 years in business and 10 locations so far, The Bed Store dominates Knoxville’s retail mattress market in product, sales, and customer loyalty. Still, Roger insists that their most important brand is the customer, which is evidenced by their familiar mantra, “We’ll even tuck you in.” And they go above and beyond to prove it!

Following his talk, Roger surely will become everybody’s favorite mentor as he leads a Q&A session addressing issues that we face in the business world as Christian business people. It promises to be entertaining, inspirational, and memorable.

So, again, why did you walk down this path? Regardless, once the choice is made, we will all need "faith, focus, and the commitment to finish" for the road ahead will be demanding before it is rewarding. It is a journey not intended for the faint of heart, but for the true entrepreneur, nothing else will do. 

For one day when all is said and done, hopefully, we can say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7).

Meet Our Speaker: Roger Cunningham

Roger Cunningham is the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of The Bed Store, a retail mattress chain with 10 Knoxville area locations. Established in 1992, The Bed Store has been voted Knoxville’s Best Mattress Retailer for the past three consecutive years by the Knoxville News Sentinel Readers’ Choice poll. The Bed Store currently holds the number one sales position in the greater Knoxville market with a 23% market share. Under the trademarked marketing slogan of “We’ll even tuck you in,” Cunningham has sought to differentiate his company as one dedicated to making the mattress shopping experience easy, fun, and affordable.  

Roger is married to Misty Cunningham, former Vice President of Corporate Marketing for Regal Entertainment. He is a father of three daughters and grandfather of one granddaughter and six grandsons that all hold him accountable to live the life he preaches.

After graduating from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida, with a double major in Religion and Psychology, he attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he studied Counseling and Public Speaking.

A faithful friend and counselor to countless people, Roger has taught a Married Adults Sunday School class for the past 24 years and provides FREE marriage and crisis counseling sessions in his free time.
