The Legacy Centre Speaker Series with Jeff Bohanan

"The Power of Owning Our Core Values to Drive a Growth Culture" presented by Jeff Bohanan, Founder & President, Protomet and PTM Edge

Jeff Bohanan - contrarian thinking

How do you see the world?

Throughout history, there have been key people who have revolutionized the way we think. However, as what happens sometimes when tradition and innovation collide, before these changemakers became famous, society coined some less than desirable names for them – rebel, crazy, troublemaker – just to name a few. But now we look back on those trailblazers and admire them for their bravery, foresight, unique visions, and ground-breaking contributions.

They made us see, think, and act differently. Not just different, better.

Because Protomet looks at the world differently, they, too, are able to go beyond client expectations and bring revolutionary products and cost-saving solutions to market all over the world from East Tennessee, jobs once reserved largely for overseas suppliers. Protomet’s founder, Jeff Bohanan, has led the company to experience rapid growth over the past decade, defying all odds in numerous ways – the latest project being the massive expansion beyond the company’s original footprint in Oak Ridge to a new $30 million, 244,000 square foot Loudon County facility, slated to open in July and bring 200 new jobs to East Tennessee over the next five years.

Since 1997, Protomet Corporation has been a world-class provider of innovative design, engineering and manufacturing services. In addition to comprehensive design services, Protomet provides high-precision solutions for clients in a variety of markets including marine/boating, automotive, aerospace, homeland security, industrial, energy and power. The question is what drives Protomet to push forward? On June 8, Jeff will discuss how Protomet has defined their unique set of core values with specific examples demonstrating the power of these core values at work to determine strategic direction as well as impact the daily culture. He will share how Protomet continues to bring innovative products to market by being firmly rooted in a set of core contrarian principles that drove the original vision 21 years ago.

Join us on June 8th, be challenged to think differently by one of our region's top changemakers, and harness the power of owning your company’s core values to drive business growth and build better communities!

Meet Our Speaker: Jeff Bohanan

BohananGrowing up in Knoxville, Jeff Bohanan attended UT Knoxville and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering.

He is married and has three adult children, ranging in age from 20 to 25.

After working at the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Complex for 12 years, Jeff founded Protomet Corporation in 1997.  Protomet works with technology companies to bring new products to market by serving as a product development, engineering, and manufacturing resource.  Protomet has served clients in the automotive, aerospace, defense, and commercial marine industries.

In 2005, Jeff led the rapid growth of Protomet to be recognized by the statewide publication, Business TN magazine, as being one of the 50 fastest growing companies in the State of Tennessee.

In recent years, the company has invested heavily in research and development (R&D) and now has numerous patents for products that are sold to major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as through an international dealer network.

In 2013, Protomet completed a $10 million expansion which involved more than doubling its current facility and merging an acquired aluminum finishing business into the same facility.

Based on customer demand for Protomet’s unique engineering and manufacturing solutions, in July of this year, Protomet is preparing to open a 244,000 square foot expansion into Loudon County.  The 5-year expansion project will include $30 million in new capital investment, 200 new jobs, and add new capabilities as well as expand capacity in preparation for continued growth and leadership in its markets.

Coffee, light breakfast, and TLC served.
